The 4th Annual Cardile Bros. Mushroom Co. 2007 State Doubles Championship raised $2,750 for Delaware Hospice’s capital campaign to fund the future Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.
This year’s tournament was held at Kirkwood Fitness & Racquetball Club in Wilmington in memory of Joe Caputo, an avid racquetball player, who was cared for by Delaware Hospice earlier this year.
Sandy Caputo explained, “Delaware Hospice provided tremendous support and comforting care for my husband as well as me and my family. The process was so painful for everyone, yet the support of the Delaware Hospice nurses, staff and volunteers helped to ease the pain and suffering for all of us.”
Seventy-five players participated in the Cardile Bros. Mushroom Co. Doubles State Championship, representing Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland.
Sandy said, “As we were both active members of DARA, the board members openly supported choosing Delaware Hospice as the best organization to benefit from this year’s proceeds. The impact that Delaware Hospice has on our community will forever play a role in all of our lives. We’re all grateful to have such an outstanding organization serving our community.”
Delaware Hospice’s capital campaign, “The Community Campaign to Expand Delaware Hospice,” will fund construction of a 16 family suite, 35,000 sq. ft. Center situated in Milford on 11.5 acres of land. The Delaware Hospice Center will provide a new option of care for patients and families for whom at home care is not feasible. The Delaware Amateur Racquetball Association (DARA) was founded in 1984 as a non-profit corporation whose mission is to develop and promote both recreational and competitive racquetball in the state of Delaware. Go to www.dara.org for more information.
