Delaware Hospice Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for Delaware Hospice Center in Milford
Delaware Hospice will hold the Groundbreaking Ceremony for its first Delaware Hospice Center in Milford on Friday, November 3, 2006, at 1:00 p.m., at Independence Commons, Airport Road, Milford.
Keynote speakers at the Groundbreaking Ceremony will be The Honorable Ruth Ann Minner, Governor of the State of Delaware and Honorary Chair of the Delaware Hospice Capital Campaign, The Honorable Thomas Carper, Senator of the State of Delaware, Susan Lloyd, MSN, RN, President and C.E.O. of Delaware Hospice, Henry H. (Troy) Silliman III, Chairman of the Delaware Hospice Board of Trustees, and Joseph Rogers, Mayor of the City of Milford.
The Delaware Hospice Center will serve families throughout the state of Delaware and will be the first hospice center to serve Kent and Sussex Counties in Delaware.
The Center will be built on 11.5 acres in the Independence Commons, Airport Road, opposite the Delaware Veteran’s Home.
The Delaware Hospice Center will feature 16 private patient and family suites, a Family Support & Counseling Center, a Community Resource Center, a Meditation Room, and offices for home-based services and administrative staff.
The wooded grounds will provide a peaceful setting and feature landscaped walkways and gardens.
Construction of the 35,000 sq. ft. Center will be supported by a $4,000,000 capital campaign.
Susan D. Lloyd, R.N., M.S.N., President and C.E.O. of Delaware Hospice, stated, “Our communities in Delaware have clearly demonstrated the need for more hospice patient care options, expanded family support services, and community outreach and resources.”
She added, “The Center will offer another choice for where patients and families can receive our care. Patients may require a transitional setting between hospital and home. Caregivers may need a respite from responsibilities or, at times, care may be too difficult at home. The Delaware Hospice Center will complete the full circle of comfort and care and provide our families with a new choice to end-of-life care at Delaware Hospice.”
Patients and families will find privacy, comfort, and comprehensive services with 16 private suites, providing a home-like environment with family, kitchen and dining areas as well as a children’s alcove and a central gathering space.
Professional care will be available 24 hours a day, giving caregivers needed support and quality time with their loved ones.
“This will be a place to celebrate life,” said Vice President of Development, Manny Arencibia. “It’s a life service, helping people get the support they need to fulfill their wishes and dreams, and allowing family members to enjoy their time together while our staff manages all the details of care.”
The Delaware Hospice Center will be an option for patients of all ages and at various stages of illness, who have qualified for hospice admission. A patient leaving the hospital might choose a brief stay at the Center in order to get symptoms managed, under control and stabilized before returning to their homes, or a caregiver may desire short-term respite care for a loved one.
The Delaware Hospice Center in Milford is expected to open in February 2008.
Mrs. Lloyd stated, “We are proud to be able to provide such a necessary and valuable resource to the deserving citizens of Delaware and to continue to fulfill our mission of being the leader in providing high quality hospice palliative care and in serving as a community resource for end of life care.”
