How do you know when it’s time to call us?

As much as our families appreciate the hospice support, the one regret they often express is that they didn’t know about Delaware Hospice services earlier.

“I wish I had called you sooner.”

The sooner you call, the faster we can help you to feel ready with a plan in place. Some people know instinctively when it is time for hospice care. However, for many families, it is a difficult decision, with many factors to weigh, during a period when it is natural to be overwhelmed with emotion.

To make it easier to decide, here are some typical situations many families find themselves in:

When you (or a family member) is seriously ill.
When your physician has told you (or you realize without being told) that the goals of your care need to change from curing your illness to living as well as you can with your illness.
When you want to live your remaining days to the fullest, making your own decisions about your care.
When you want to be relieved of your pain and made as comfortable as possible.
When your family needs emotional or spiritual support and counsel.
When you have been hospitalized or to the emergency room several times in the past six months.
When you need help from others with your care; for example, with bathing, dressing, eating, getting out of bed, or walking.
When you need help understanding what options for care are available.
When you don’t know where else to go for help.
