Delaware Hospice & Saint Francis Healthcare Partner to Expand Palliative Consultations in the Wilmington Area

(Newark, DE) — Delaware Palliative, a program of Delaware Hospice, is proud to announce a new partnership with Saint Francis Healthcare, Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic to provide palliative consultative services to Saint Francis Healthcare’s patients. As a leader in in-home palliative care, Delaware Palliative is honored to partner with Saint Francis Healthcare to provide palliative consultations to their eligible patients. The partnership will begin on Tuesday, July 6, 2021.

Palliative care is specialized supportive care for people living with serious illnesses. The focus is on providing patients with relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness, regardless of the diagnosis. Through palliative care the following can be provided:

  • Symptom management and the highest quality of supportive care
  • To promote end of life/goals of care planning discussions and completion of advance healthcare forms
  • Safe transitions for patients across the healthcare continuum
  • Reduction of emergency room visits and hospitalizations

“In the coming months, we expect this partnership to be the beginning of an ongoing and growing relationship between Delaware Hospice and Saint Francis Healthcare,” commented Vice President of Clinical Services for Delaware Hospice, Debra Kent RN, BSN, MA, CCRN, NEA-BC. “We have seen an increased demand in palliative consultations from our medical community members propelled from the effects of the pandemic.”

Chief Medical Officer of Saint Francis Healthcare, Dr. Ralph Gonzalez commented, “The Delaware Palliative Team has the expertise and resources to support our staff at Saint Francis while being able to provide healthcare solutions to our community. In light of the pandemic, more patients and their families are involved in learning about their healthcare options and are more willing to have these tough conversations earlier.”
