As Delaware’s only not-for-profit hospice provider, Delaware Hospice depends on contributions from individuals, families, corporations and community organizations. This generosity ensures we continue to respond to the needs of our community, making services available to anyone in need.
Delaware Hospice offers several ways for people and businesses to support us, such as memorial gifts, commemorative bricks on our Pathway of Memories, capital campaign and estate gifts. However you decide to give, Delaware Hospice transforms your financial support into care and compassion for other families.
Here are just a few of the ways you can demonstrate your support:
Families and friends often find comfort in honoring the life of their loved one through a monetary gift which becomes a lasting tribute. Delaware Hospice is frequently designated in loved one’s obituaries for memorial gifts in lieu of flowers. Memorial donations received by Delaware Hospice are thanked individually and the family is notified of the gift and donor’s name, but no amount is given.
Designate Delaware Hospice for memorial gifts in an obituary with the following: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, Polly Drummond Shopping Center, Newark, DE 19711, or to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
Please include the name of your loved one in the memo line of the check. Some people choose to make their gifts on the anniversary of a Special Event in the life of their loved one such as a birthday, a wedding anniversary or a holiday. Join us as we pave a Pathway of Memories at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. We invite you to create a lasting tribute in honor of a family member or friend, while simultaneously supporting the work of Delaware Hospice. An attractive pathway lined with commemorative bricks linking the gardens to the lobby of the patient/family suites honors individuals, families, businesses, and service organizations throughout our community. Bricks are placed along the pathway semi-annually in spring and autumn. While individuals are welcome to visit any time, donors are invited to a special event in the spring of each year. The commemorative 4” x 8” red brick is only $150 and allows for one to three lines of type with up to 14 characters per line. For assistance or more information, call Sue Bernetich at 855-DHI-GIVE, ext.1175, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.

When you include Delaware Hospice in your will, your gift can have an impact for generations to come. By leaving a legacy to Delaware Hospice, you are helping to provide our community with the highest quality hospice and healthcare services available. It is an expression of love and compassion toward people in need of comfort.
To do so can be as simple as including a codicil in your will, stating: “I give and bequeath to Delaware Hospice ($___ or %___ of my estate) for the (general purposes/specific program) of the organization.” Your estate may also benefit from tax savings, whether your gift takes the form of a bequest, charitable remainder trust, life insurance policy or charitable gift annuity.

Volunteers make a significant contribution to Delaware Hospice’s mission. We rely on a large network of compassionate and sincere volunteers to provide the community with an extensive range of programs and services. If you are interested in a rewarding life experience, we invite you to become a Delaware Hospice volunteer today.
Delaware Hospice offers many types of volunteer opportunities. In fact, we’ll supply the training you need as well as ongoing support and education so you know the best way to help others. If you can associate with any of the following talents, Delaware Hospice may have a volunteer opportunity that is right for you:
I’m a great listener. I’m comfortable being in the presence of someone who might be vulnerable, tired, frustrated, or just in need of some company. I’m at ease with people in general, and happy to help with running errands.
I’m able to serve as a quiet presence and source of strength during the very intimate and emotional moments of an individual’s final hours. I can provide peace and comfort directly or on the sidelines, but I’m also able to create enough boundaries so I don’t become overwhelmed emotionally myself.
I can relate to the pain associated with loss, and I’m able to visit, listen, write notes of encouragement, or make phone calls to help people as they heal through grief. I don’t feel the need to hurry someone along the process, and will wait patiently as they move at their own pace.
I have a passion for working with children who have suffered a loss. I relate to their special needs and am willing to learn more. I can assist leaders with crafts, games, and activities designed to help children identify and cope with their feelings.
I enjoy coordinating the details of office organization and data entry. No job is too small for me, such as filing or making copies. I know that working with even small details makes a vital contribution to Delaware Hospice and its mission.
I demonstrate strong communications skills and enjoy the idea of raising awareness about the special needs people face at the end of life. I’m comfortable with public speaking and/or writing, and I like the idea of promoting a philosophy in which I passionately believe.
The Delaware Hospice Center:
I’m personable and enjoy making people feel welcome. I can play card games or just sit and talk with patients, bake cookies for guests, or greet family members visiting loved ones. I’m happy to help with tasks that might be necessary around the center.
I love to plan parties, make appeals for community support through fundraising, or serve as an extra hand during public events such as the Annual Jazz Brunch, the Festival of Trees, 5-K runs/walks, and our Annual Golf Outing.
Volunteers are required to be 16 years of age and are required to participate in an educational program to understand the concept and mission of hospice care.
