Fat Shaming – How Weight Bias Jeopardizes Your Health Lunch Bunch
March 5, 2021 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
Join us for an hour-long presentation with Dr. Judy Pierson, Psychologist.
This month topic is: Fat Shaming – How Weight Bias Jeopardizes Your Health- If 97% of dieters regain everything they lost and then some within three years, why do we still shame ourselves and others for being overweight? According to researchers at the University of California diets do not lead to sustained weight loss or health benefits for the majority of people. Further, there is now evidence that weight stigma is more harmful to the body than poor diet or inactivity. Attempts to get healthy rooted in self-condemnation are rarely effective. Perhaps it is more important to learn to feel peace with and in your body. Approaches rooted in listening to our bodies when we eat, such as intuitive or conscious eating, and self- acceptance may present more effective paths to health.
