Thanks to generous community support and grants, Delaware Hospice has developed and participated in unique initiatives that address the special needs of veterans managing life-limiting illnesses. These include:
Pilot study: Military Experience Revisited at the End-of-Life.
Delaware Hospice has partnered with the University of Delaware to conduct a pilot study to determine if veterans in hospice care who discuss their military service stories express improved satisfaction at the end-of-life. Preliminary results from this study indicate the tremendous impact this interaction can have on a veteran’s quality of life.
Reaching Out: Quality Hospice and Palliative Care for Rural and Homeless Veterans
Delaware Hospice was among a select group of 18 hospice organizations around the country chosen by the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) to participate in an initiative to improve outreach to rural and homeless veterans in need of hospice care.
We Honor Veterans (WHV)
Delaware Hospice has joined a group of committed hospice organizations, hospice-veteran partnerships and VA facilities across the country honoring veterans with the mission of guiding them through a more peaceful end-of-life. Through this program, Delaware Hospice is recognized as a leading hospice provider for veterans during the end-of-life and is the only not-for-profit in Delaware to achieve the WHV Partner Level 3.
